Hello! I’m Lisa.
And I love to learn, try new things and discover the magic of this world. I am married to a great guy and our current home is Xizhou, a small village in western China’s Yunnan Province.
Why My Funky Discoveries?
Everyday, I love to sit down with a cup of tea and go through all the wellness emails that I get in my inbox. I love discovering new vegetarian and vegan recipes, DIY instructions for home decor and cleaning, exercise regimes and apps and much more that could make my life, my family and my home more connected to the magic of this world.
The thing is, is that I do not want to keep these discoveries to myself, and I know there are others out there who love making new discoveries everyday. Plus, as you learn from me, I want to learn from you too!
Side note: I have tried and tested all the discoveries I share with you.
Join me today on this journey of discovery, it will be a funky one!
Where did “Funky” come from?
My maiden name is Fung-Kee-Fung. Yup! The history of this name is quite interesting – maybe I’ll make that a post one day. As a result of such a unique last name, some nicknames came about. I think my brother had one or two in high school. In college, “Funky” quickly became my first name, not Lisa. When I became a teacher, Ms. Funky was quickly suggested by the students. And yes my science class became known as Funky Science. The name Funky has become part of me and in honor of my family I want to keep it around.
Fun Facts About Me
I was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, in the Caribbean. Yes, look up to see where it is!
I went to Lafayette College and got a Bachelors of Science in Biology. Oh and I played college tennis there too!
I began my teaching career at The Pingry School in New Jersey, teaching 1 section of 9th Grade Biology and being the permanent substitute teacher.
I moved to Shanghai, China in 2012 and spent 10 years teaching 6th Grade Science at Shanghai American School (SAS).
I met my husband at SAS who ironically is from New Jersey. Yup I moved from New Jersey to China to meet and marry a guy from New Jersey 🙂
In my last 2 years at SAS, my husband and I were gifted the jobs of Microcampus Coordinators and got the opportunity to live in Xizhou Village, Yunnan Province. We brought students to this area to experience and explore the culture and environment this region provides.
